1998 VFR800Fi in Red

by boybergs
(london, uk)

I'm now 50 and have owned numerous bikes over the years. Ive always bought from new and they've always been naked bikes. I bought my 1998 red VFR 800 2 months ago and its left me wondering why I never before considered either an older or a faired machine.

I simply cannot fault it mechanically or ergonomically and its astonishing value for money. Superb engine, slick gearbox, good brakes and solid build quality. Even as a 15 year old bike it looks fresh and eye catching, sounds great ( fuel can ) and rides very well on plush but firm suspension.

If your looking for a fun, practical and reliable machine, I'd recommend this, the 5th gen VFR as an excellent choice.

Happy VFR 99 model owner
by: Ashphalt Jungle

Hey all, been looking for ages to throw the leg back over something with some grunt. Last bike was ST 1100, so tapping into my inner Honda desires, I came up with this model. Bought one very cheap with 37k on the clock . Rode it home from Maitland to Sydney in the dark and the rain. Then every day since I have looked for more . Found another with less , bought that . Very happy . Don’t know about bar risers , but I do know I need mirror blocks to extend mirrors. It’s got the growl that I like and just can fault the model 98-2000.

Best bike ever, still today.
by: Bas

My wife and I ride VFR800Fi.
It's 20 years old, so what?
It's a fast bike even today.
It turns heads as it's good looking and has the best sound ever.
So far I have not found a bike that is the same but modern.
I will not trade our bikes soon, my wifes has just 65kkm on it, mine 97kkm, still runs like new.

Proud 1999 VFR Interceptor owner
by: Henry in Colorado

I just bought mine last year, same color red.
I used to ride cruisers and one day saw a Ninja zx6 for sale, test rode it and bought it. I was hooked on sports bikes! Then one day saw my 1999 VFR for sale. Test rode it and bought it. The sound of those gears driving those cams is music to my ears! I was hooked again.
My pipe is loud, it even drowns out most Harley's.
I'm only 165lbs and my Interceptor moves me along just fine. Everybody I lend for a test ride comes back with a grin stretched from one ear to the other. I go sleep with that same grin knowing I will wake up the next day and take it on ride!

Unquestionably believe that which you stated. Your favorite reason appeared to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people consider worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks

Hot climate riding
by: Peter

Following Didier's comments, I have been touring Spain for three weeks on this bike with my wife. We had few days with 42C (108F), and it was uncomfortable with all the leathers were worn but that's how it is with such temperatures unless you're prepared to take them off, but then the safety issue. That was the only heat we were concerned with and I cannot remember any unbearable heat from the engine. I've had much worse in terms of this on my former bike Honda CB750 as it was naked.

How about riding in hot climate
by: Didier

I read on another forum that the hot air from the engine and radiators in city driving can be a real problem when it's already hot outside. I live in Florida and that concerns me. Can you comment on that?
